A stream key is a private code that lets encoder software such as OBS Studio send video to a platform over RTMP. You do not need one to go LIVE on TikTok if you use TikTok's own tools. TikTok's help pages describe two ways to go LIVE without a stream key: the TikTok app on your phone, and TikTok LIVE Studio, TikTok's own streaming software for computers. Both need LIVE access on your account.
Everything below comes from TikTok's official help pages, checked on October 4, 2026 (as of October 2026). Where TikTok does not publish a detail, this guide leaves it out and says so.
TikTok's help article What is TikTok LIVE? lists these requirements to use LIVE:
The same article notes that LIVE and Gift features are not currently available everywhere. TikTok may also ask you to confirm your age before you go LIVE, depending on factors such as your location or whether you have done so before. If it cannot confirm your age, you will not be able to go LIVE. Depending on your location, the options TikTok lists include ID and selfies, selfie with ID, credit card authorization and facial age estimation.
Requirements vary by region and can change, so check what the TikTok app shows for your own account.
No stream key is involved. TikTok lists these steps:
To finish, tap End LIVE at the top, then End now. If you do not yet have access, TikTok's LIVE Studio FAQ says to swipe to the LIVE section in the app and tap Get access to go LIVE; any requirements you have not met are shown in gray, and you can reapply once you meet them.
LIVE Studio is developed by TikTok and, according to its FAQ, has functions similar to OBS. It supports macOS and Windows. TikTok's help pages describe this order:
Test your camera and microphone before you go LIVE with the free webcam test and microphone test. Both run in your browser and upload nothing.
To go LIVE from LIVE Studio you need LIVE access. TikTok says an active LIVE creator on TikTok can get access instantly if:
TikTok's page does not give the exact numbers. It says the requirements vary by country or region and are subject to change without notice. Access is automatically renewed for longer periods if there has been no suspension or revocation recently.
If you are a streamer on other platforms and not an active creator on TikTok, clicking Your LIVE access takes you to an application form where you provide information about your channel on another platform. TikTok says review might take days, and you will get a notice in the TikTok app when approved.
TikTok's LIVE Studio FAQ also says that if you are using a trial, you need to go LIVE for at least 25 minutes, twice during your first week, or your access will be revoked.
If TikTok has issued your account an RTMP server URL and stream key, treat the key like a password: never share it or show it on stream, and keep it out of screenshots (see the RTMP URL and stream key helper). Multistream Platform can relay one RTMP or SRT stream to custom RTMP destinations, so credentials from any platform can be added as a custom destination. We could not verify from TikTok's official help whether or how such credentials are issued, so confirm what your account offers in TikTok's own tools.
For the encoder side, see how to multistream with OBS Studio, RTMP vs SRT and the bandwidth calculator. For the other platforms, see stream to YouTube, Twitch and Facebook at once.
Try it with Multistream Platform. Send one RTMP or SRT stream and relay it to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Kick, TikTok and custom endpoints. Start on the free Starter plan (2 channels, 20 streaming hours a month) and see the pricing page for paid plans.
Platform figures were checked on October 4, 2026. Platforms change their recommendations, so confirm against the current documentation before you go live.
