RTMP URL and Stream Key Helper

Choose a platform to see its RTMP server URL format and where to find your stream key, from official documentation.
Where to find your YouTube RTMP URL and stream key
Server (ingest) URL
Copied from YouTube Live Control Room (Stream URL)

YouTube's help pages tell you to copy the Stream URL from the Live Control Room rather than publishing a fixed address. By default it shows the RTMP URL. Click the lock icon next to it to show the RTMPS URL.

Entering it in your encoder

Enter the Stream URL and the stream key in the separate Server and Stream Key fields of your encoder.

Where to find the stream key
  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room (in YouTube Studio) and go to the Stream tab, or schedule a new stream.
  2. Under Stream settings, copy the Stream URL (click the lock icon for the RTMPS URL).
  3. Copy the Stream key from the same section and paste it into your encoder.
  4. For a key you can reuse, create a custom stream key in the same area. To replace a compromised key, use Reset next to the hidden stream key (channel owners and managers only).
Never share your stream key. Anyone who has it can broadcast to your channel. This tool never asks for a key; do not paste one into any website you do not trust.
Good to know
  • YouTube recommends RTMPS because it encrypts the stream.
  • If you see an SSL error, check that both the protocol and the server are rtmps, and try adding port 443 to the URL.
  • Treat the stream key like a password: YouTube describes stream keys as your stream's password and address.

The Starter plan is $0 per month. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually; see the pricing page for details.

What an RTMP URL and stream key are

RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) is a streaming protocol that encoders such as OBS Studio, vMix and hardware encoders use to send live video to a server. RTMPS is the same protocol over a TLS (encrypted) connection. To connect, an encoder needs two values:

  • The server URL (ingest URL), the address of the platform's ingest server, starting with rtmp:// or rtmps://.
  • The stream key, a secret string that tells the platform which channel or event the stream belongs to. It works like a password.

Some tools ask for the two combined into one address in the form server-url/stream-key. Others have separate fields. The helper above shows how each platform describes it.

How to use the helper

  1. Choose a platform.
  2. Read where its official documentation says to find the server URL and the stream key.
  3. Open that page in your own account, copy the values, and paste them into your encoder.

To send one stream to several platforms, enter each platform's server URL and key as a destination in a relay such as Multistream Platform instead of in your encoder. Your encoder then connects once, using RTMP or SRT ingest. See how to multistream with OBS Studio and streaming to YouTube, Twitch and Facebook at once.

Common errors

  • Connection failed or timed out. The server URL is wrong, or your network or encoder does not support RTMPS. YouTube suggests checking both the protocol and server are rtmps and, for SSL errors, trying port 443.
  • Invalid or expired stream key. The key was reset, copied with extra spaces, or created for a different event. LinkedIn generates the Stream URL and Stream Key for each event.
  • Stream connects but nothing shows. Some platforms need you to set a title or category, or to press Go live, before viewers see it.
  • Feature not available. Access to a stream key can depend on account eligibility, for example LinkedIn Live.

Stream key safety

Treat a stream key like a password. If it leaks, reset it in the platform dashboard. Facebook and Kick explicitly tell you not to share it, and YouTube describes the key as the password and address of your stream. Do not show it on screen while streaming.

Platforms not listed

We list only platforms whose official documentation we could verify. TikTok is not included because we could not confirm its server URL and stream key steps from TikTok's own documentation. Follow the values your platform shows you.

RTMP URL and stream key FAQ

What is an RTMP URL?
It is the address of a server that receives a live stream over RTMP. It starts with rtmp:// or, for the encrypted version, rtmps://. Platforms may call it the server URL, ingest URL or stream URL.
What is a stream key?
A stream key is a secret code that identifies your channel or event to the platform. You enter it in your encoder together with the server URL.
What is the difference between RTMP and RTMPS?
RTMPS is RTMP over a TLS connection, so the stream is encrypted. YouTube recommends RTMPS and Facebook's Live API specifies it.
Where do I find my YouTube stream key?
In YouTube Live Control Room (in YouTube Studio), in the Stream settings section. YouTube also lets you create a custom stream key and reset a key if it is compromised.
Where do I find my Twitch stream key?
Twitch's documentation says broadcasters can retrieve it from the broadcaster dashboard on twitch.tv. The documented URL format is rtmp:///app/.
Where do I find my Kick stream key?
In your Kick creator dashboard under Channel, then Stream URL and Key, according to Kick's help center.
Can I use the same stream key for multiple platforms?
No. Each platform issues its own keys. To reach several platforms at once, enter each platform's URL and key as a destination in a relay, so your encoder sends a single stream.
Is it safe to paste my stream key into this page?
There is nothing to paste: this page never asks for or stores a key. Keep your key private and never share it publicly.
Why is TikTok not listed?
We only include platforms whose server URL and stream key steps we could verify from official documentation.
